Writing The Future

One of the cardinal rules of writing is to write what you know, which is a very good rule and one I strongly agree with. However, when writing about the future, where does one begin? After all, the future hasn’t happened yet, so how can anyone claim to know it (with the possible exception of time-travellers, and even they’re on rocky ground if one allows for multiple branching realities – but that’s a discussion for another time). If the future were so easily known, bookmakers around the world would soon be out of business, surely?

Faded, Not Fallen

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, TSFKAFS has a new name. In the end I’ve decided to make the change a small one and so I would like to announce that the new title for my series of cyberpunk short novels will be …. [drumroll and fanfare] … Faded Skies.

The Sky Has Fallen

A few years ago I self-published the first novel in a series. At the time the plan was to release one every six months or so, with each book telling it’s own stand-alone story while simultaneously building on the mythos and background of the setting. It was an ambitious plan involving multiple intertwined story-arcs buried within the framework of thirty individual novels, all eventually coming together in an epic cyberpunk tale of human evolution in a dystopian future. I wanted it to be groundbreaking, but at the same time accessible. As it turned out, things didn’t quite go to plan.
